It had been a long time since I’d taken pregnancy portraits, so I was excited when my friend Christie asked me to do hers. Or maybe I was the one who asked her, but either way, I was excited!

Christie started out as my client. Shortly after our first session, she started her own photography business and we quickly became good friends. I love when my clients become my friends and it seems I even love when they become my competitors! It’s great to have someone to share experiences with and learn with and basically just talk and talk and talk about photography!

Anyway, it was fun to shoot Christie’s family again, and her perfect pregnancy body!

Maegan- thank you soooo much for these beautiful photos. I will treasure these. You are so talented and generous and I’m so lucky to have you as my friend ๐Ÿ™‚

Today’s family session was cut short by thunder and lightening that seemed to be right above us. We left just in time because it started pouring rain as soon as I drove away. But 25 minutes was enough time to get some group shots and some nice images of these beautiful kids…

I love this one. Two year old Alexander, looking kind of tough in his shark shirt, standing in a field of flowers!

I don’t know if his parents saw, but Joshua walked up to me while I was kneeling down taking pictures of his cousins, and he put a flower in my hair! It was so sweet.

Maegan, these are some amazingly beautiful children and a totally gorgeous setting. Where is this park? I love she shot where the focus is on the foreground & the three people are blurred as they pick flowers — it’s captivating.

This is the kind of family you meet once and feel like you have known forever.

A dad that paints flowers on his daughter’s face and and teaches her that pants will be called trousers when they move to England.

A mom who turns tissue paper into butterflies and knows the names of all the trees and flowers at the park. Who makes her photographer feel so special by sharing all the nice things people have said about her photographs.

A 5 year old who loves to laugh and dance and sing and make funny faces and carry on conversations. Who will run up and hug you the second times she meets you.

A two year old who is full of energy and will stand 6 inches from your face and speak sentences you can’t quite understand, but you smile because he has such a sweet little voice. Who likes to set up trains with his dad and loves to hug and kiss his mom and sisters.

And a baby who just smiles and laughs and seems perfectly content.

It’s a family you can feel like a part of, even after just a short time. So free-spirited and excited to learn and experience new things. So genuine and loving.

Thanks Jason, Starr, Cami, Graham, and Rose!

Now I’m the one with tears in my eyes. Maegan, you said such sweet things about us! Whenever I’m feeling like a failure as a mom, I’ll read this again and again and again.

I truly love the photo of Cami & Jason at the top. Jason looks so handsome. A big copy of that will grace the wall of our house in England.

I’m guessing that photo of Cami & I is the one that made you teary. I love it, too. (And if that t-shirt really does make my eyes look that blue, I need to head to the Gap & get five more.)

Cami looks darling with her sun & flower and Jason wants to know what you did to get Graham to sit still for that shot. Actually, the exact question was “What was he doing with his hands?” And that shot of my sweet, chubby baby will make her grandparents very happy.

You are so wonderful. What are we going to do without you to help us so beautifully remember good times as a family?

Yesterday I saw one of my favorite client families and I will be posting a preview very soon, but first I just wanted to post one of my favorites from last time I saw them. I was following little Graham around in the yard to get some candid shots and he picked up a watering can and started watering these plants! Isn’t this the cutest thing ever?

It’s amazing to revisit this photo (it’s one of my favorites, too) and see the chubby little arms & the “I need a haircut just for my ears” hair. He’s so big now. But seeing this photo makes it easier to overlook the times he pulls Cami’s hair & feel proud to be his mommy.

Here are a few more from this weekend…
