There are people you meet, or even see on Facebook and haven’t actually met yet, who you just know you’re really going to like.  That’s how I felt about Denise, the mom in these pictures.  I met her through Babywearers of Northern NJ, which is an awesome group for parents who like to wear their babies or haven’t started yet and want to learn about it.

I felt so happy and honored to spend some time with Denise and her family during this newborn and family photo shoot welcoming their precious baby girl.

Denise is lucky enough to live very close to her mom, who came over while I was there.  The chair they are sitting in belonged to Denise’s mom’s mom, and Denise’s dad’s mom made the blue blanket.  I love having special items like these in photographs.  You’d think we planned the coordinated colors, wouldn’t you?  (We totally didn’t.)

In the past five months, Denise and her husband moved, got married, and had a new baby.  What a special year 2012 has been for them.

I know there are people out there who worry their house isn’t big or pretty enough to have a photo shoot there.  (I happen to be one of these people!)  This family actually has a great house, but I loved the light and the coziness in the master bedroom so much that we stayed there the entire time.  One room with great light and not much clutter is all we need!

One awesome thing about being a business owner is the ability to barter.  Denise runs a company  providing natural parenting products, including ring slings, mei tais and other carriers, amber necklaces for teething babies (you’ve probably seen pictures of my Jasper sporting his) and achy grown ups, teething bling for mamas (love my necklaces/Jasper’s favorite toys), and cloth diapers and accessories (we started yesterday!)  These are all things I like and I was happy to have something to offer that Denise liked!  🙂

Denise is also a doula.  I didn’t have one for my births, but if I decide to for baby #3 (if we decide to have a baby #3!) Denise has the calm and strong, person you can feel completely comfortable around, personality I would want in the delivery room with me.  I don’t think it’s on her site, but I know she also offers placenta encapsulation, which people have asked me about before I knew whom to recommend.

I enjoy photographing a wedding every once in a while, but it had been a really long time since I last photographed an engagement session.  I was happy to have this soon to be married couple at the Tenafly Nature Center Mini Sessions.

I helped this family welcome big brother and big sister to the world with photo shoots and was so happy to hear another baby sister was on the way.  A newborn portrait session to me is not only about the baby.  It’s about what the whole family is experiencing and the beauty and comfort of being in their home enjoying their life together.

We did dress her up in pink hats and bows, but the most simple newborn shots are always my favorite.  🙂  Sweet, sweet baby…

Today Xander and I were looking through pictures from his first year.  The pictures of him and me together are some of the most special to me.  I hope this mom and daughter will treasure these…

Life at home with a brand new baby = more TV and iPad than usual for the big kids and a whole lot of nursing for mama.  Love that she was reading on her phone.  I do that all the time while nursing.

I was there on the most beautiful fall day.  I love October in New Jersey!

I could have followed this little girl around all day.

These kids are easy to adore.

If you have a baby on the way and are interested in a newborn and family portrait session, please contact me using link above.  I would love to talk!

If you’ve enjoyed these pictures, I would love for you to like/share/comment below, and also to like my Facebook page.  Thank you so much!!!

I LOVE these!!!! And love your words with them

We took a long weekend trip to Boston in October and spent part of the time with my friend and her family.  The husband and the little girl in these pictures are hers and the little boys are mine.  🙂

Looking forward to a longer Boston trip next summer, with more time to spend at my Uncle Jeff’s house (drums, robot, legos, dogs, trampoline, cousins, good conversation!!) and more time with my friend at her home near the beach!

Here is another of my Mini Sessions at Tenafly Nature Center in September.  Such a fun day and we raised a lot of money for Tenafly Nature Center!
