As I was driving home from this newborn session last weekend, I felt so happy.  I really like driving fast on the parkway and singing (it was mostly old country songs and 90s music that day), I was loving the  cookies that my client gave me (soooo nice!!! and I even managed to save some for Paul and Xander), I was on my way home to my boys, and I had just spent part of the afternoon photographing this perfect tiny newborn girl and her family exactly the way I want to be photographing newborns and families.  Here they are in my style…and their style…

They reminded me about one important tip to keep kids happy during a photo shoot…and even during an average day.  Feed them healthy snacks often!

One of the cool things about being on maternity leave is that I’ve had time to do things I don’t usually have a chance to.  One evening I went to a workshop hosted by this mom, Erica, about healthy meals for busy families.  It was a fun night out for me and I took away several little tips that have made it easier for us to eat closer to the way we should be eating.  I also joined one of her Tuesday morning Walk and Talk sessions.  Jasper and I enjoyed a nice walk and conversation with a few other moms.  Check out Erica’s website for info on her workshops and her work as a personal health coach.  Definitely also like the Nature Girl Wellness Facebook page so you can stay updated on events and see helpful tips and thought-provoking questions.  And now I’m going to stop snacking on Lindt truffles and go make myself a big salad.  :)

I love going to my clients’ homes for their portrait sessions.  I think it’s so special to see your own home in the pictures.  And won’t it be awesome for these two big brothers to have this picture hanging in their room?

I love these next shots because it’s those seemingly insignificant, easily forgotten, every day moments, like lying on the floor with my little boys among toys and puzzle pieces that I want most to remember…

I haven’t been taking enough pictures of my boys and there are so many moments I want to freeze and keep forever.  Xander and Paul went outside the other night to grill hamburgers and I just love the way Xander says “hangabers.”  I also love hearing him say “hosipital” and “nexuh,” as in, “Mommy, I think my baby brother wants to sit nexuh to me.”   He sings all the time lately and comes home from school with new songs to teach us.  This weekend we had fun with, “I have a friend who likes to dance and Daddy is his name.  Dance, Daddy, dance.  Dance, Daddy, dance!”  And then there are the songs like “This Land is your Land” and “You are my Sunshine” that we’ve always sung to him, and he’s now all of a sudden started singing with us.  His little voice is the sweetest sound.  Well, it’s a tie between his voice with the cute baby noises Jasper makes.  :)
