They reminded me about one important tip to keep kids happy during a photo shoot…and even during an average day.  Feed them healthy snacks often!

 

One of the cool things about being on maternity leave is that I’ve had time to do things I don’t usually have a chance to.  One evening I went to a workshop hosted by this mom, Erica, about healthy meals for busy families.  It was a fun night out for me and I took away several little tips that have made it easier for us to eat closer to the way we should be eating.  I also joined one of her Tuesday morning Walk and Talk sessions.  Jasper and I enjoyed a nice walk and conversation with a few other moms.  Check out Erica’s website for info on her workshops and her work as a personal health coach.  Definitely also like the Nature Girl Wellness Facebook page so you can stay updated on events and see helpful tips and thought-provoking questions.  And now I’m going to stop snacking on Lindt truffles and go make myself a big salad.  :)

First, I would make sure to have someone take some pictures of Xander and me soon!  If you haven’t seen them yet, check out my friend Emily’s blog post here.

Second, I though of my Aunt Marianne, who had asked me to take family pictures for her.  I told her I would when I had some extra time, and since I was nearing the end of the fall rush, I decided the time was now, before her boys, who are 17 and 12, are officially men.

I went to their house on a lovely Sunday afternoon and had the best time with them.  Sadly, I had barely ever really talked to these cousins of mine, who live only a mile a way and are such smart, sweet, cute boys.  So I loved learning about what they like to do and how they spend their time, and I enjoyed capturing lots of family laughs!

I’ve gotten used to photographing two or three kids at a time, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with seven, between the ages of one and sixteen. I couldn’t have enjoyed it more. I absolutely adored every one of the children – all beautiful and smart and fun. Mom and dad seemed super cool, so I wish I had more time to chat with them, but the kids kept me entertained and feeling welcome and loving being a photographer! I hope they will all love the group shots we got for their Christmas cards and the individual portraits that will go on their walls.
